Rising stars Kyan Mavany and Ethan Ataide advanced to the finals of the Boys Under-14 category with impressive victories in their semifinal encounters, highlighting another day of strong performances at the ongoing Baale BPS Open 2026 at the B.P.S. Sports Club, Margao.
In the semifinals, Kyan Mavany delivered a dominant performance to overcome Alec Barreto in straight sets, winning 4-0, 4-0 to secure his place in the final. Ethan Ataide, meanwhile, fought a hard-fought battle against Shaurya Verlekar in a closely contested encounter, eventually prevailing 4-3, 1-4, 11-9 in a thrilling match to advance.
Previously, in the quarterfinals, Kyan Mavany continued his strong run with a convincing 6-1 victory over Devaansh Naik. Alec Barreto advanced with a solid 6-1 win against Aarav Ataide, while Shaurya Verlekar edged past Arsh Sardesai in a closely fought match, winning 7-5. Ethan Ataide also progressed with a composed 6-3 victory over Christian Fernandes.
In the earlier round one matches, Kyan Mavany opened his campaign with a clinical 6-0 win over Parth Kadam. Devaansh Naik secured a confident 6-1 victory against Satya Stewart, while Aarav Ataide registered a 6-4 win over Aymer Fernandes. Alec Barreto advanced comfortably with a commanding 6-0 win over Keon Fernandes. Shaurya Verlekar also impressed with a 6-1 victory against Vihaan Krishnan, and Arsh Sardesai progressed with a 6-2 win over Ivan Henriques. Ethan Ataide, meanwhile, moved ahead with a convincing 6-0 win over Arnav Kamat.
In the Girls Under-14 category, the quarterfinals witnessed several commanding performances as players battled for semifinal spots. Tvisha Sardesai advanced with a dominant 6-0 win over Eva de Souza, while Kimberly D’sa secured a clinical 6-0 victory against Myra Borkar. Urvi Panandikar progressed with a solid 6-4 win over Analeah Menezes, and Bhaavya Bhoomkar advanced after defeating Anindita Sawate 6-1.

Earlier, the tournament’s third edition was inaugurated in the presence of Franky Dcosta, Member, BPS, Sachin Dukle, Secretary, Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA), Raju Paigankar, VP, GSTA, Alberto Colaco, Chief Guest, Sameer Kakodkar, President, GSTA, Secretary, BPS, Vikram Verlekar, Sports Committee Chairman, BPS Club.
On the tournament’s opening day, Sameer registered an equally emphatic 6-0 victory over Anup. Pankaj Naik also advanced comfortably, overcoming Brian with a clinical 6-0 win. In other first-round matches, Kalyananaraman B defeated Rohan L 6-2, while Marcus edged past Kedar in a closely contested match with a score of 6-4. Ehrlick, meanwhile, progressed with a strong 6-0 win over T Kulkarni.
Round two of the Masters 45+ Singles category saw Dimitry deliver a composed performance to defeat Sidharth S 6-2. Neville fought hard to overcome Sameer in a tightly contested match, winning 7-5, while Kalyananaraman B continued his fine form with a commanding 6-1 victory over Kishore and Marcus maintained momentum with a solid 6-3 win against Naveen.
The Baale BPS Open 2026, supported by Baale Resort Goa and conducted under the aegis of the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA), has attracted a total of 197 entries across junior, open and veterans’ categories, underlining the tournament’s growing stature in the state’s tennis calendar. The introduction of new veterans’ events, including the Masters 60+ Singles and Masters 100+ Doubles categories, has further expanded competitive opportunities for senior players this year.
The tournament will be played over 11 days at the B.P.S. Sports Club courts in Margao, with several matches lined up across junior, open and veterans’ categories in the coming days.
