PANAJI: A one-day ‘Diwali Bazar’ was set up at Azad Maidan here on Thursday with festival decor items, sweets (faral) and many other products on sale. Here are the sights and sounds from the pop-up market, which  provided a bit of excitement amidst the  pandemic as the COVID-19 cases decline in Goa.

On Thursday, nobody died due to COVID-19 in Goa for the first time in last five months; while the new cases stood at lowly 107. Yet, by no stretch of imagination should  people be complacent during the festive season, warn the doctors in general.

Huge effigies of demon ‘Narkasur’ will be on display on the eve of Diwali, tomorrow. Usually, the Narakchaturdashi night witnesses big crowd out on the roads with loud music creating a party atmosphere in the streets.

Former Indian Medical Association-Goa president, Dr Shekhar Salkar said: “We hope Diwali celebrations and the season of wedding ceremonies, does not let us down.”
Meanwhile 501 out of 805 beds are vacant in the private and government hospitals put together (almost 60%). Around 120 beds are vacant in Goa Medical College, added Dr Salkar, head of oncology department at Manipal Hospitals-Goa.
