In a significant step towards advancing technology-enabled governance, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) is set to organise Goa AI Hackathon to promote the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in government service delivery. The initiative forms a key component of the Goa AI Mission 2027, aimed at leveraging emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, transparency and citizen-centric governance.
Speaking about the initiative, Kabir Shirgaonkar, Director, DITE&C, said, “Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and it’s imperative that we integrate it ethically and responsibly into governance. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister Shri. Rohan Khaunte, the Goa AI Mission 2027 has been launched to harness the transformative potential of AI. Through this AI Hackathon, we aim to explore solutions such as automated verification of government scheme applications, early identification of missing information and timely delivery of benefits to eligible citizens. Our ultimate goal of improving public service delivery.”
Under the programme, all government departments, corporations, autonomous bodies and local authorities have been invited to submit their problem statements based on day-to-day governance and service delivery challenges. These problem statements should identify areas where AI-based interventions can enhance efficiency and improve outcomes.
Following a thorough scrutiny and evaluation of the submitted problem statements, DITE&C will facilitate the development of AI-powered solutions tailored to address the specific needs and challenges faced by the government departments.
Goa AI Hackathon builds on the success of the Goa Open Innovation Challenge 2025, which invited startups and student innovators to solve high-impact problems across government departments. The challenge received an overwhelming response, with 557 applications submitted from across the country.
With initiatives such as the Goa AI Hackathon, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C) continues to advance its vision of building a ‘Digitally Empowered Goa’, fostering innovation and leveraging emerging technologies to better public service delivery.
