Don Bosco College-Panaji and Govt College-Quepem won the men’s and women’s competition respectively, at Goa University’s 35th Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship from 31st January to 2nd February at Bambolim athletic stadium. Around 1000 athletes from 46 colleges participated in the 3 days championship. For the first time at the competition, photo finish technology was set up.
Prof. Savio Fallerio, Principal of Fr. Agnel College, Pilar, graced the opening ceremony and declared the meet open. Milton Fernandes, former Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, was also present.
Padma Shri Brahmanand Shankhwalkar was the chief guest for the valedictory function and presented trophies and medals to the winners. Teddy Cardoso of Don Bosco College registered a new meet record in 5000m men’s run with a timing of 14.50.95.
Moses Mascarenhas of Govt. College-Quepem and Kunika Harmalkar of D.M’s College and Research Center, Assagao, were declared Best Athlete (Male) and Best Athlete (Female) respectively.
