Don Bosco College, Panjim, triumphed over defending champions, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, 2-0 in the final of Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Football Championship at University Ground, Taleigao Plateau.
In a competitive duel, both teams engaged in a pleasing brand of football. However, despite numerous attempts, the first half failed to produce a goal.
Don Bosco College in particular, demonstrated effective short-passing skills, maintaining possession in the opponents’ half.
The second half commenced with a similar intensity, as both teams sought to gain the upper hand. In the 70th minute, Don Bosco College broke the deadlock when a shot from Flani Costa slipped through the goalkeeper’s grasp and found the back of the net.
Rosary College made every effort to equalise and to prevent further scoring from Don Bosco, but in the 84th minute, Blessica Rodrigues struck again
after the ball deflected off a defender.
Best Player of the championship prize was awarded to Swellen Fernandes of Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim.
The valedictory ceremony was honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Milton Fernandes, the former Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. The event also featured Guest of Honour Dr. Francis Lobo, the College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Rosary College. Also present were Synora Picardo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Carmel College, Ryan Pereira, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, Panjim, and Jeromica Culaso, a football coach along with Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University.
