Entertainment Society of Goa’s Cinephile Film Club will screen French film, ‘My Night at Maud’s’ (1969, 105 minutes) directed by Éric Rohmer; on Thursday, 25th January, at Maquinez Palace, Old GMC Complex-Panaji at 6.30 pm.
Rohmer was a part of the ‘French New Wave’ and this film was his big breakthrough in the international circuit – it won a host of accolades and was nominated for the Oscars as the Best Foreign Film and Best Screenplay. Starring Jean-Louis Trintignant as Jean Louis, a devout religious man, and Maud (Françoise Fabian) whom he is introduced to by his friend, they spend time at her place, where they talk about love, marriage, and more.
This conversation-laden film with a brilliant screenplay revolves around the theory of Pascal’s wager. Film critic Roger Ebert called it “a triumph of direction” and said, “It is so good that you realize how hungry you’ve been for this sort of thing.”
The screening is free for members of the club and Rs.120 for non-members, states a press release.
