G.O.A: INDOOR SPORTS COMPLEXES LIKELY TO OPEN NEXT WEEK, SAYS SPORTS SECRETARY

PANAJI: Goa Olympic Association (GOA) has informed that indoor sports complexes are likely to open next week after a GOA delegation met the Secretary of Sports, J Ashok Kumar.

A GOA delegation comprised Secretary General, Gurudatta Bhakta along with three representatives namely Sandeep Heble, Rajendra Godinho and Hemang Doshi. They
met J Ashok Kumar (IAS), to apprise him of the issues faced by the athletes and State Sports Associations which were hindering the prospects of sports.

The GOA delegation handed over a memorandum listing out some urgent steps required to bring sports back to normalcy after the lengthy break due to COVID-19 pandemic. Opening of Indoor sports complexes for resumption of sports activities, repair works at Indoor stadium at Chicalim where significant damage has occurred due to torrential rains, and pending grants of State-level sports associations were some of the issues discussed. During the meeting, the Secretary of Sports clarified that restrictions on outdoor sports complexes have been removed and outdoor sports athletes can start practicing. Most sectors have opened up and restrictions on indoor sports complexes are also likely to be withdrawn after July 12, he added.
