PANAJI: As part of various activities conducted in connection with World Environment Day, the Field Outreach Bureau (FOB) Goa, under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India; put up posters at Miramar beach to spread awareness among the tourists about the importance of keeping the beaches clean.
The posters were unveiled by Rohit Monserrate, Mayor, Corporation of the City of Panaji; at a massive cleaning drive held at Miramar Beach recently. The cleaning drive was jointly organised on World Environment Day by FOB Goa, 1 Goa Battalion NCC Panaji and Samrat Club.
The posters, put up at various parts of Miramar Beach, call upon the visitors to keep the beach clean and not litter the surroundings with plastic wastes. There are also posters that urge the public to go for a green life.
Talking about the project, Riyas Babu, Field Publicity Officer – Goa, said that the initiative was to remind the tourists about the importance of keeping the beaches clean. “There are waste bins put up at several parts of the beach. However, the visitors do not use the bins. Instead, they just throw away the waste carelessly, making the efforts of the Panaji Corporation (CCP) futile. The posters shall remind the tourists about their responsibility.”
Riyas said that the FOB will expand the project in a bigger manner to the other beaches in Goa. The FOB will also carry out a tree plantation drive in Panaji as part of the ongoing activities related to the Environment Day.
