A delegation of international representatives from the Sai Ayurvedic Institute in Miami, Florida, who are currently undergoing Ayurveda clinical training at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Dhargal, Goa, began an enriching tour, in line with the initiative to promote Goa beyond beaches on November 15. Organised by Department of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), the tour kicked off with a visit to the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji.
At Church premises, the delegates along with programme coordinator Dr. Rupali Panse from Miami, Florida; and Dr. Nitin Ujjaliya, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Dravya Guna at AIIA, Dhargal Goa, were warmly welcomed by Gavin Dias, General Manager GTDC; Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager of Marketing, and other officials from the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
“Goa Tourism Development Corporation is thrilled to organize this enriching tour for the delegation, providing them with the opportunity to experience the true essence of Goa. Alongside exploring the serene spice plantation, the delegation visited the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, showcasing the State’s diverse attractions that extend well beyond its famed beaches,” stated Dias.
“This initiative highlights the dedication to positioning Goa as a hub for holistic wellness. It aligns seamlessly with the vision of Rohan A. Khaunte Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa to promote wellness tourism and builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Department of Tourism and All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dhargal, Goa,” said Narvekar.
Dr. Rupali Panse, the coordinator of the program from Miami, Florida, shared her thoughts on the Ayurveda clinical training programme, stating:“The Sai Ayurvedic Institute in Miami, Florida, has curated its first ever three weeks Ayurveda clinical training program, enabling our 12 representatives receive structured training at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dhargal, Goa. This will elevate their skills and broaden their expertise in a more formalised environment. My goal is to make this an annual programme, enabling ongoing professional growth and cross-cultural exchange in Ayurvedic practices.”
Following their visit to the church, the delegates proceeded to Nandanvan Spice Plantation, at Khandepar Ponda, renowned for its wide variety of spices including cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. They were guided on an immersive tour through the plantation, sharing insights into traditional spice cultivation techniques and the rich biodiversity of the region.
The tour concluded with a specially curated lunch at the plantation, featuring dishes of authentic taste of Goa’s culinary heritage. The visit aimed to highlight Goa’s commitment to wellness as well as sustainable tourism fostering a deeper connection to the region’s heritage and natural resources.
