PANAJI: Jyoti Mehta is on a mission to spread joy in the society, via her paintings. Her work titled ‘Missing Those Days’, recently won an award at the international online art exhibition and competition organised by Kalaratam Foundation of Art Society (KFOAS), Uttar Pradesh.
The Goan artist blends spirituality with her art and the result, is ‘happiness.’ Livenewsgoa.com caught up with the St Cruz (North Goa)-based artist to know more about her creative as well as spiritual thought-process.
“‘Missing Those Days,’ this painting is dedicated to all the children who have missed school due to the pandemic. School is a place where all children from different backgrounds and communities get together for studies, sports and fun. The children are missing their friends with whom they used to share the tiffin, crack jokes, laugh, play, comment about teachers/students, get upset over small issues etc. The school bag is the unique identity of every child. The bag is filled not only with books, but all the emotions like friendship, love and smile that they carry every day. They miss the beautiful smile in the morning when they see each other and the feeling while going home that they will meet again tomorrow. All the children are really missing those days,” explained Jyoti, who is very happy that the jury selected her art work.
Jyoti’s interest in sketching and painting right from the childhood, turned into passion as she grew up. She hails Wilson D’Souza and Sadguru Chendvankar for guidance in the field of art.
“That was the turning point of my life, then my hobby became my passion. I am in this field since last 12 years. I mostly work with Acrylic and Watercolor. I love the transparency and softness of these mediums,” stated Jyoti.
A painting is not just a stylish piece of decor or splash of colours, but it has a significant value in terms of emotions generated and message sent out to the society. Moreover, Jyoti’s work is spiritual!
“I feel that painting is a very powerful medium to express and share my thoughts to the world. I like to observe the various shapes, colors, textures and seasonal changes in the nature around us. I try to understand what they are trying to tell us and this gives me ideas for my paintings. I am also inspired by the teachings given in spiritual books. I try to understand those teachings and convey it through my Artworks. Colors and brush give me a creative language to express myself and connect with the world. I feel painting is the medium for me to spread love and happiness in everyone’s life,” asserted the Environmental Scientist.
Goa’s favourite festival ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ begins today and this is how, Jyoti is welcoming the patron of artists. “Every year during this festival, I do 2 -3 paintings of Ganesha. But this year, I tried something different. I tried making Ganesha with packaging paper net,” she disclosed.
