Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim won the men’s title; and St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, bagged the women’s title, at the Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Championships 2023-24 organised by Goa University from 13th to 16th February at Goa University Ground, Taleigao.
In the women’s final, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa defeated SSA’s Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem 25-14, 25-20, 25-23.
In the semis, SSA’s Government College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem defeated P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts & Science, Farmagudi 25-10, 25-11, 25-11. St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa defeated Don Bosco College, Panjim 25-15, 25-18, 25-11.
In the men’s final, Government College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Sanquelim defeated P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts & Science, Farmagudi 25-23, 25-23, 25-17
Earlier in the semis, P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts & Science, Farmagudi defeated DCT’s S.S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics, Cujira, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16. Government College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Sanquelim defeated C. E. S. College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim 25-19, 25-13, 25-16.
The prize for Best Player in Men’s and Women’s events was awarded to Akash Gaude of Government College, Sanquelim, and Gauri Shetgaonkar of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, respectively.
In all 34 men’s and 25 women’s teams participated in the four-day Inter College Volleyball Championship.
The Chief Guest for the presentation ceremony was Joslyn D’Souza, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. Also present was Balachandra B. Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University.
