PANAJI: Indian Army swept the honours at the 14th National Rafting Championship in Himachal Pradesh and will now represent India at the World Championship in France in June.
Indian Army Team topped the competition while Army Adventure Wing took the runners-up position; after the competition witnessed exhilarating events in Downriver, RX and Slalom categories over the course of four days in the Sutlej river.
Divesh Kumar (IAS), Secretary Tourism, Himachal Pradesh, graced the closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, Colonel Sachin Nikam led the Army teams as coach and manager in what can be termed as a tremendous effort as his boys displayed exemplary team spirit and hard work. They brought extra equipment to support other teams. And looking at the overall competence and application, the Army teams have the potential to spring a surprise at the upcoming world championship.
Col Sachin, who has also undergone the World Rafting Federation judges course conducted by WRF Chief Judge Stefan Purjakov, was also a judge at the race along side Indian Rafting Foundation (IRF) judges. Other judges came from Goa, Kashmir, Jammu, Arunachal, Delhi and Hyderabad, and put in a big effort to make the national rafting championship a huge success. IRF president Shaukat Sikand was the overall guiding light.
