ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa, organised a training programme on Natural Farming recently at Chodan-Tiswadi. The event aimed at providing farmers with valuable insights into sustainable and environmentally-friendly farming practices.
Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head of ICAR-KVK, North Goa, briefed the participants about the key principles of natural farming practices. He emphasised the agrochemical-free agro-farming system, which integrates crops, trees, livestock, and biodiversity. He narrated the recycling of crop residue through mulching, the use of fermented organic liquid manure preparation, periodic soil aeration, and avoidance of synthetic agrochemicals.
Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), ICAR-KVK, North Goa, welcomed the participants and demonstrated the preparation and application of two key natural farming inputs, ‘Jeevamrut’ and ‘Ghanajeevamrut’, through a hands-on approach. He also discussed effective pest management techniques in natural farming, and highlighted the role of natural agriculture in promoting food security and building climate resilience.
A total of 32 participants (7 men and 25 women) attended the programme, all of whom gained in-depth knowledge and practical skills to implement natural farming methods on their farms.
KVK has supported their continued efforts; each participant was provided with a Natural Farming Kit containing essential materials for starting their journey into natural farming.Rahul Kumar and Dr. N. Bommayasamy coordinated the training.
