In a powerful expression of unity and patriotism, Porvorim witnessed the Sindoor Yatra—a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces in the wake of the recent India-Pakistan border tensions. The Yatra was held under the leadership of Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, ITE&C, Printing and Stationery and MLA of Porvorim; to reaffirm support for India’s military and national security.
The Yatra was flagged off by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant in the presence of Rajya Sabha Member Sadanand Shet Tanavade, BJP Goa President Damu Naik, Zilla Panchayat Member Kavita Gupesh Naik, Penha-De-Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Socorro Panchayat Sarpanch Sonia Sanjay Pednekar; and elected members from Penha-De-Franca, Socorro, and Salvador do Mundo Panchayats.
The yatra commenced from Vidya Pramodhini School and culminated at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circle, Porvorim, with resounding chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind” echoing through the streets, as residents carried the Indian Tricolour high in pride.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stated: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it absolutely clear—India has Zero Tolerance towards terrorism. If anyone even thinks of threatening our nation, they will have to face the consequences. And when it comes to PoK — Pakistan Occupied Kashmir — our message is simple: we want it back.”
Speaking at the culmination of the Yatra, Rohan A. Khaunte emphasised the pride felt by every Indian, saying: “The leadership of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi from the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh from the Indian Air Force during the recent Operation Sindoor is a moment of national pride. These women officers showed Pakistan the strength, preparedness, and resolve of a confident India. India showed how such missions can be led — using modern defence procurement in a capable and strategic manner. We stand united in honour of our Armed Forces and the values they protect.”

The ‘Sindoor Yatra’ served as a tribute to the courage of India’s armed forces and a reaffirmation of the people’s unwavering support for national integrity and strength.
