PANAJI: Punjab beat hosts Goa 12-0 in their last ‘Pool F’ game at the 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship 2022 at Peddem sports complex, Mapusa.

In the other games, Bengal beat Tamil Nadu 4-1 in Pool C, Chandigarh beat Assam 11-2 in Pool H, Madhya Pradesh beat Maharashtra 8-0 in Pool H.

Earlier in the tournament, Goa had played their hearts out and secured an unexpected 1-1 draw against Delhi in their opener where coach Alexander Remedios-coached boys executed the defensive gameplan to perfection. The hosts then went on to thrash Puducherry by half a dozen goals to impress with their attacking strategy. However, today they met one of the traditional powerhouses of Indian hockey and got overpowered.

Punjab found the target regularly as Lovenoor Singh (5’, 35’, 46’) and Prabhjot Singh (34’, 52’, 55’) struck a hat-trick each, while Prabhdeep Singh (11’, 47’) scored a brace. Besides, Pritpal Singh (13’), Harpreet Singh (36’), Japnit Singh (41’) and Rohan Bhushan (43’) scored a goal apiece.
