PANAJI: Rotary Club of Panaji presented ‘Young Achievers’ award to visually-impaired duo of IT entrepreneur & CEO of Kankonkar Technologies, Ankur Kankonkar; and Computer teacher (Enable India-Bangalore) Rama Parsekar. The Club also presented a smart viewing gadget to visually-impaired MA student of Goa University, Akshay Bhangle.
Deputy-Director of Social Welfare (SWD), Taha Haaziq was the chief guest and handed over the prestigious mementos to the shining young stars of Goa, here on Wednesday.
In his address, Haaziq, who is also the incharge of the Special Disability Cell of SWD, praised Rotary Club of Panaji for their initiative to honour the persons with disabilities (PwD). He also emphasised on “change in attitude” as the need of the hour for the society. “(If) We can start some movement to recognise the capacities of persons with disabilities. Call these persons and make them part of regular functions. It is all about inclusion!,” he advised social organisations like Rotary Club.
Ankur and Rama recounted their journey on the challenging path, to success. Ankur from Margao, who topped the Computer Science degree in Goa to prove his doubters wrong and underline the ‘ability from the word disability’, revealed that he fought depression at three different stages in his life. He now leads a software business team to provide his clients technology solutions in what is a very powerful statement of motivation and himself is a rolemodel for the society. Similarly, Rama disclosed his extraordinary comeback after being in darkness for 19 long months at one point in his life and how he has moved on to be a pan-India traveller as a computer professional. They hailed the support by National Association for the Blind (NAB) in their transformation.
