PANAJI: Melisho Camotio’s goal earned Youth Club of Manora a solitary goal win over Vasco Sports Club in Goa Football Association’s Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday.
YC Manora started on a promising note and deservingly took the lead in the 25th minute when Nicholas Fernandes whipped in a low cross from the right flank where Vasco keeper Risven Fernandes failed to get to the ball and Melisho scored with a simple tap-in.
Vasco SC conducted a series of raids, but the attack came to nothing due to a strong Manora backline. At the other end, Manora had a chance to double the lead but much to their dismay, Jason Barbosa failed to guide in Melisho’s cross.
After the breather, the Port-Towners enjoyed better football and should have scored the equaliser but Sanwil D’Costa’s long-range shot was pushed for a corner by Manora keeper Luis Barreto.
Vasco SC continued to create chances but their efforts failed to produce desirable results. Second-half substitute Joaquim Abranches saw his attempt go wide from close.
Minutes later, Vasco SC had yet another chance when Abranches played a quick free-kick towards Denil, who squared the ball to Mathew. But before the lad could shoot, Manora’s defender Aditya cleared the danger.
Vasco SC were lucky not to concede their second as Manora had one of their attempts come off the woodwork. Nicholas sent in a delivery from the flag-kick to Eldon Colaco. The last-named sent the ball to Jason, who connected to nod in, but his attempt struck the post.
Manora continued with their missed opportunities as this time it was Jeh Williamson, whose placement shot went sailing past the upright.
