PANAJI: Aman Mehla of Navi Mumbai and Tamali Basu of Kolkata, won the 42km marathon title respectively; at the 11th SKF Goa River Marathon organised by the Vasco Sports Club in partnership with the SKF India Limited at Chicalim-Vasco on Sunday.
A total of 2500, fully-vaccinated runners, from all over India, took part in the event which was organised strictly observing the government’s Covid guidelines and implementing all prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs). The entire organising team and volunteers were also fully vaccinated, states a press release.
Aman Mehla of Navi Mumbai clocked a timing of 2:50:33 to win the (42km) full marathon in the men’s category, while Nilesh Kulaye of Ratnagiri who clocked 2:55:48 and Manash Burman of Bengaluru who clocked 2:59:15; finished second and third respectively in the same category.
Tamali Basu of Kolkata clocked an impressive 3:54:32 to win the (42km) full marathon in the women’s category, Bijoya Barman of Bengaluru (3:57:55) and Asma Kurane of Kolhapur (4:03:36) finished second and third respectively.
In the (21km) men’s half-marathon, Rahul Shukla of Bengaluru won the race with an impressive timing of 1:13:22, followed by Teddy Cardozo of Goa with 1:13:57 and Udesing Padavi of Nandurbar with a timing of 1:14:11 finishing in second and third positions respectively.
In the women’s half-marathon, Pramila Patil of Chiplun won the race in an impressive 1:42:49, while Samantha Chai of Mumbai in 1:42:57 and Shubhangi Badola of Bengaluru in 1:43:52, came second and third respectively. Interestingly, as many as 500 runners and walkers also took part in the 5km walk-run event.
Nitin Bandekar, president of Vasco Sports club, said: “We are grateful to the government of Goa, the Goa police, the South Goa collector and all other government departments that helped in the smooth conduct of the race.”
