A Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity was conducted at the Sanjay School, Porvorim for Persons with Disability (PWD) by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer- Porvorim AC today regarding Saksham App of the Election Commission of India.
The session was conducted to educate, spread awareness and promote voting rights among the electors. The program began welcoming the gathering by Urvashi U. Naik, AERO, Porvorim AC who spoke about SVEEP, a flagship program of the ECI for educating and promoting awareness and voters literacy in India and briefed about Saksham application of the ECI, how it is developed for easing the process of enrolment and registration for PWD voters and the assistance provided.
The Assistant Returning Officer for 09-Porvorim AC, Shubham Naik imparted information about various steps taken up by the ECI for making the process of election and voting accessible for the PWD voters and about their rights and importance of voting.
The Principal of the institute, Kudalkar also addressed the gathering. Key speaker, Taha H. Secretary, Commission for Persons with Disability and keynote speaker, spoke on the importance of the role of electors and the election process and its effectiveness in a democratic country.
A demonstration of how a PwD voter can exercise their franchise at a polling station on election day was enacted by the Booth Level Officers. A slogan-writing and recitation activity was also conducted for the students of the school.
