Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has expressed gratitude to the Union Government after the Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari announced the sanctioning of Rs 1376 Crore for the 4-laning of a 22.10 km stretch on NH-66 between Bendordem and Polem, Canacona.
“This transformative project will catalyze economic growth and foster regional development, driving progress and prosperity,” stated the Chief Minister.
Earlier in a social media post, Gadkari stated: “In Goa, we have sanctioned ₹1,376 crore for the 4-laning of a 22.10 km stretch on NH-66, encompassing the segment from Bendordem to the commencement of the Canacona Bypass, and from the end of the Canacona Bypass to the Karnataka border at Polem.
“This section forms an integral part of the Mumbai-to-Kanyakumari 4-lane corridor and constitutes a pivotal route for South Goa. It serves as a crucial artery connecting the towns of Margao, Cuncolim, and Canacona, and significantly enhances the state’s overall connectivity.
“Traversing the villages of Bendordem, Cordem, Barcem, and Canacona, this stretch is indispensable for facilitating inter-state traffic with Karnataka and Maharashtra while also improving intra-state connectivity to key towns such as Panaji and Margao. The development will alleviate congestion, enhance traffic flow, and address critical accident-prone zones in the region.”
