PANAJI: Commemorating its golden jubilee year, Vidya Vikas Mandal (VVM) recently organised a ‘National webinar’. Conducted by the VVM sports council, the programme started with VVM President, Nitin Kuncolienkar welcoming the resource-persons and participants .
Goa’s top sports stars were among the speakers with former Goa Ranji Trophy star and ex-IPL (Rajasthan Royals) opener Swapnil Asnodkar sharing the experience via ‘A journey to Cricket’ topic highlighting the need to focus on fitness to achieve success. He also revealed his story of overcoming challenges in life and to become a successful cricketer.
Chess Grandmaster, Anurag Mhamal spoke about ‘Career of a sportsman and role of parents’ and enlightened the participants online with the role his parents played as he became the first GM from Goa.
India under-17 girls football team coach Thomas Dennerby, who formerly coached the Nigeria women’s national football team, put the ‘Diet essentials for a growing athlete’ under the spotlight. The 61-year-old Swede underlined the fact that each athlete required a proper diet plan as per the training; as what they eat is very much linked with the training programmes.
Sports Authority of Goa’s Executive Director, Vasant Prabhudesai delivered a talk on ‘Promoting sports culture in Goa’. The long-serving highly experienced S.A.G head and former national-level handball player, chronologically highlighted the development of sports infrastructure over the last decade.
Ajinkya Kudtarkar and Sidharth Faldesai co-ordinated the webinar. Lizia Gomes and Farheen Khan compered, while chairman of sports council and member of the VVM Board, Vikram Verlekar proposed the vote of thanks.
