PANAJI: Pearl Colvalcar and Avelino Fernandes have been selected to represent India at the 6th Asian Beach Games to be held in Sanya-China in April 2021, according to a press communique by Goa Yachting Association (GYA). Both the teenaged Goan sailors will compete in the Techno 293 OD Windsurfing category.
Techno 293 OD category is the Youth Olympic class in windsurfing and a good performance at the Asian Beach games could earn them a qualifying spot at the next Youth Olympics, feels GYA.
Katya Coelho of Goa represented India at the 2014 Youth Olympics in the Techno 293 OD category and then went on to represent India at the Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta in the RS:One Category.
“A full-time windsurfing and sailing coach would go a long way in ensuring that these promising sailors and more in their wake can achieve their full potential and win medals for India and Goa.”
