PANAJI: A documentary film on the theme of women’s empowerment via chess, was released here on the International Women’s Day on March 8. The short film encapsulates the journey of Queens Chess and Cultural club. Dr. Deepa Sharieff, Assistant Professor (Dept. of O.B.G), GMC, was the chief guest at the function.
Dr. Deepa complimented Queens Club for taking initiative and involving women from all walks of life in chess activities as well as in organising tournaments and chess seminars.
Goa Chess Association president and Power Minister, Nilesh Cabral hailed the Queens Club, saying: “Queens Chess & Cultural club has taken a big leap in bringing the ladies together for chess and social cause. I am happy to note that they have done excellent activities since its inception, specially during Covid times by managing their homes, profession and service, setting a good example for other ladies in the society. My best wishes for the entire team on this International Women’s day.”
GCA Secretary, Kishore Bandekar also congratulated the club. “They have created nice opportunities by coming together despite being engaged in household activities as also the profession. The entire team of Queens Chess and Cultural club is dynamic, innovative and eager to learn. They are getting trained for conducting chess events and also for qualifying as arbiters. Dr. Roopa Belurkar, President of Queens Club is leading from the front and we are sure that in coming times, it will set a landmark for others. My best wishes to Dr. Roopa and the entire team on this International Women’s Day.”
