About the Film:

The Phantom of Liberty (French with English subtitles), Directed by: Luis Buñuel, Duration: 1 hrs 44 minutes

Director Luis Buñuel has a unique place in the annals of cinema, for the kind of path-breaking films he made. Writer Octavio Paz called Buñuel’s work “the marriage of the film image to the poetic image, creating a new reality, scandalous and subversive”

The Phantom of Liberty was Buñuel’s second last film and one which he had a soft spot for. The story, if one can call it that, is a series of unrelated vignettes reflecting the director’s satirical humor and outlandish take, challenging social norms. As Roger Ebert said, “It’s very funny, all right, but remember: With Buñuel, you only laugh when it hurts.”
