About the Film:
Film: The Man Without a Past (Finnish with English subtitles)
Directed by: Aki Kaurismäki
Duration: 95 minutes

This film is about a man who comes to Helsinki, gets mugged, and wakes up in a hospital without any memory. From there, he rebuilds his life from scratch. The Hollywood Reporter in its review said, “It takes a great deal of experience and wisdom to make a film this simple yet profound.”

Among several accolades, Kaurismäki’s films have also won the Palm Dog thrice (most endearing performance by a dog in a film) for The Man Without a Past, Le Havre and Fallen Leaves.

One of the living legends, Kaurismäki’s brand of cinema is like no other. No one has portrayed the working class with the inimitable deadpan humor, pathos, and empathy, like Kaurismäki.

This year, he won yet another prize at Cannes (Grand Jury Prize for Fallen Leaves). ‘The Man Without a Past’ also won the same award at Cannes back in 2002 (along with Best Actress, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Palm Dog) and was nominated for an Oscar (the only Finnish film, ever).
