PANJIM GYMKHANA’S BANDODKAR TROPHY: VAISHNAV PEDNEKAR & AVISHKAR MONE POWER MARATHA WARRIORS INTO FINAL

PANAJI: Maratha Warriors will clash with Khorlim XI in the final of Panjim Gymkhana’s Bandodkar Trophy cricket tournament on Thursday (April 15) at the PG ground, Carpal here.

Maratha booked the final berth after registering a 65-run victory over Panjim Gymkhana ‘A’ in the second semi-final on Monday.

Panjim Gymkhana won the toss and elected to field. In response, Maratha Warriors posted a challenging total of 237/7 in 40 overs. Vaishnav Pednekar played superbly and top-scored with a knock of 87 runs. Avinash Gawas was also in a good touch, scoring 63 runs. Abdul Salam (26), Damodar Redkar (14), Vassu Tiwari (12) and Avishkar Mone (11) helped their team build a total of an almost six-runs-an over required run-rate.

Panjim Gymkhana bowlers Sherbahadur Yadav (3/38), Shishir Divkar (3/39) and Heramb Parab (1/43) were amongst the wickets.

Panjim Gymkhana ’A’ failed to put up their best on the day as they were bowled out for 172 in 34 overs. The notable contributors with the bat were Suraj Dongre (47), Shishir Divkar (30), Ilyas Naroo (24), Aditya Naik (16) and Rajat Shet (14). Maratha Warriors’ Avishkar Mone (4/28), Naresh Parsekar (2/34), Avinash Gawas (2/20) and Abhishek Singh (2/47) bowled well.
