MARGAO: Propedalerz Club of Margao organised its first `Vorrad 5:55` duathlon recently providing a great combination of cycling and running challenge, as the society emerges from the pandemic era with health goal being the top priority.
One hundred athletes successfully completed the event, which comprised cycling for a distance of 55 kms between Velsao and Cavellosim in South Goa and a run of either 2.5kms or 5kms at the Utorda beach, on January 31.
“Besides being a well-organized event, ‘Vorrad’ brought together athletes from different clubs and disciplines. The atmosphere was electric and you could feel the camaraderie all around. The highlight for me was the beach run. Thanks to Propedalerz, we all got to enjoy the sun, sand and the sea,” said Althea Fernandes, Benaulim-based businesswoman and athlete, who completed the event successfully.
Robert Dourado, Nuvem-based businessman and athlete, said: “I had a memorable experience at the event which was truly awesome. The route chosen was fantastic and beautiful. The water stations, markers and hydration arrangements were well taken care. The beach run really added to the endurance spirit of this event post the cycling. Overall experience was 10 out 10.”
The quickest athlete in the 55km cycling plus 2.5 km run event, clocked 2 hours and 2 minutes; while the fastest athlete in the longer version of 55kms cycling plus 5 kms running event completed it in two hours and 16 minutes.
