PANAJI: With BCCI’s First Class 2020-21 domestic season expected to start in January, Goa’s elite cricketers have been undergoing a training camp since last month, at Goa Cricket Association’s academy at Porvorim.

The camp for 31 probables in view of the upcoming Ranji Trophy campaign, is now in its second stage with practice matches being held regularly at the academy ground.

Goa meanwhile, have been strengthened by the inclusion of India pacer Ashoke Dinda, Mumbai wicket-keeper Eknath Kerkar while reliable batsman and captain Amit Verma has been retained in the professional quota. The camp also includes talented young players and they are working hard under the guidance of coach Dodda Ganesh, fitness trainer Arjun Basu and director of cricket operations Prakash Mayenkar.

Goa have been promoted to the Elite group after having topped the plate category last season. It is not clear yet whether the competition format will be unchanged or as speculation suggests, the Ranji Trophy competition could be held along the zonal lines as done in the past with Goa being part of the South Zone, because of the ease of following the pandemic-related SOPs.
