15 FILMS FROM MAMI TO BE SCREENED AT CINEPHILE FILM CLUB, EX-COP MADHUKAR ZENDE TO GRACE SCREENING OF ‘ZENDE’

Entertainment Society of Goa’s Cinephile Film Club and the  Mumbai International Film Festival (MAMI) ‘Year Round Program’ will organise a screening series with 15 Films from MAMI set to be screened from 11th to 14th April at the Maquinez  Palace Theatre, Panaji.

As part of the film-fest, 15 diverse films from South Asia will include feature and non-feature films, curated by renowned film writer Sachin Chatte, who was also a part of the MAMI selection committee for non-feature films.

The feature film on the opening day, 11th April, is Against the Tide. The acclaimed film has travelled around the globe and has won several awards including the Golden Gateway at the MAMI last year. Sarvnik Kaur, the director and Koval Bhatia the producer of the film; will be present for a Q&A session. Yogesh Chandekar who wrote Monica, O My Darling and co-wrote Andhadhun, will be there to present his thriller Giallo, set during Covid times. 

Shivamma directed by Jaishankar Aryar and produced by Rishabh Shetty is also a part of the 15 film line-up.The film has also won accolades at international festivals, after it got premiered at Busan last year.

Among the short films, Shambhavi Kaul’s outstanding experimental film Slow Shift, shot in Hampi will be screened along with The Blessed and The Damned (D-Grade se A-Grade Tak), The Last Fragment (Aakhri Tukda),  Dentures, Melody Day and Goodbye, Hello. Windhorse, a story of a father and son by the America-based Nepali film-maker Sunil Gurung and Thirty, about a lady who wants to be independent by 30, by Burmese director Ei Mon Kyaw; will also be shown at the festival.The Flamingos And Other Migratory Birds Tour by Pranjal Dua and Flowering Man by Soumyajit Ghosh Dastidar, both students of FTII whose film was showcased at MAMI; will also be screened.

On Sunday, 14th April – Zende, a highly entertaining and informative documentary on Madhukar Zende, the police inspector who famously arrested Charles Shobhraj at the O’Coqueiro restaurant in Porvorim back in 1984, will be screened. The 86-year-old retired policeman will be present for the screening, along with the director and producer of the film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A.
