PANAJI: Entertainment Society of Goa’s Cinephile Film Club will screen Japanese film ‘Pale Flower’ (1963) on Thursday (23rd June) at Maquinez Palace, Old GMC Complex, here at 6.30 pm.
Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the Japanese film (with English subtitles), directed by Masahiro Shinoda. The duration of the film is 1 hour 36 minutes.
One of the most under-rated noir films, ‘Pale Flower’ became a favorite of Francis Ford Copolla as well as Martin Scorsese with the latter considering it a major influence on his work. Directed by Masahiro Shinoda, who worked as an assistant to Yasujiro Ozu, the film is stunningly shot in wide format. It involves a gangster who has been released from prison and a woman that he meets subsequently. Roger Ebert called it a film elegantly composed as a scene from Ozu, and characters that move with the grace of Antonioni.
