GOA’S VISUALLY-IMPAIRED CRICKETERS’ BODY CELEBRATES ‘WORLD BRAILLE DAY’

BCAG treasurer Yeshwant Nageshkar addresses the gathering of visually-impaired cricketers during the commemoration of Louis Braille’s 211th birth anniversary on January 4, World Braille Day, at GCA academy at Porvorim.

PORVORIM: The Blind Cricket Association Goa (BCAG) celebrated ‘World Braille Day’ on Monday (January 4) at Goa Cricket Association (GCA) academy here.

With GCA providing support, BCAG had organised a braille  competition on Sunday while visually-impaired cricketers from North and South Goa played for the first time in the Pandemic era, at the academy ground. The occasion marked 211th birth anniversary of braille inventor Louis Braille on January 4.

Cricket Association for the Blind in India general secretary E John David and  Governing Council member of CABI, DT Kumar were also present among others for the function where winners of the reading, writing and cricket events were presented the prizes.

Addressing the gathering, BCAG founder member, Yeshwant Nageshkar expressed satisfaction that the number of visually-impaired cricketers in the state has been rising steadily as the awareness builds among the parents with regards to the fears on safety of the players.

The new managing committee of BCAG was also welcomed during the gathering. Here are the office bearers for the term 2021-23: Daya Pagi (president), Kamlakant Shirodkar (VP),  Visvasrao Nagvenkar (secretary), Tukaram Gaonkar (joint-secretary), Yeshwant Nageshkar (treasurer); Exe.
