FC Goa suffered a late 2–0 defeat to Jamshedpur FC in a cagey encounter at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday evening.
FC Goa started the game on the front foot, showing early intent and energy in possession as they looked to take control of proceedings. However, a sudden downpour disrupted the flow of the match, forcing a halt in play and leading to a 20-minute stoppage before action could resume.
The game unfolded as a tightly contested affair, with Jamshedpur FC dominating possession for large spells while FC Goa remained resolute and compact defensively. The Gaurs absorbed pressure well for the majority of the match, maintaining their structure and limiting the hosts to few clear-cut opportunities despite seeing less of the ball.
Chances were hard to come by as both sides struggled to break through, with FC Goa’s defensive discipline standing out against a Jamshedpur side that controlled the tempo but lacked penetration in the final third for much of the contest.
Just as it seemed the Gaurs would come away with a valuable point, the breakthrough arrived in the 83rd minute. Rei Tachikawa rose to meet a delivery and directed a header goalwards, which awkwardly slipped into the net to give Jamshedpur the lead.
Pushing forward in search of an equaliser, FC Goa were caught out late in added time. Madih Talal spotted Hrithik Tiwari off his line and capitalised, calmly finding the net to seal a 2–0 win for the hosts.
The result sees Jamshedpur FC move to the top of the table with 21 points, while FC Goa are left to regroup after a disciplined but ultimately disappointing outing on the road.
FC Goa will now turn their attention to their next fixture, returning home on May 9 for a crucial clash against Mohun Bagan Super Giant, where they will look to bounce back in front of their home fans.
