600KM BRM CYCLE RIDE: 33 TALES OF VALOUR OF MEN & A WOMAN

PANAJI: A total of 33 cyclists successfully completed TriGoa’s 600km Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux (BRM) cycle ride from Panaji to Udupi (Karnataka) and back on January 25.

The cyclists began at 6am on Sunday, January 24 from Panaji and returned within the stipulated time of 40 hours at 10pm on Monday, January 25.

Adlin Mascarenhas (40), a mother of two from Camorlim village was the only woman cyclist to complete the 600km ride and became only the fourth woman ‘Super Randonneur’ cyclist in Goa. As many as 20 cyclists achieved the ‘Super Randonneur’ title in this season.

“The whole SR series has been amazing. It is a test of mental and physical preparedness. I am dedicating my SR title to all the courageous women out there,” said Adlin Mascarenhas.

Sunil Verma from Ribander, who bagged his fifth SR title, said: “I enjoyed this 600km ride very much, as I have been on this Goa-Mangaluru route over twenty times. In preparation for this year’s rides, I exercised daily, paid attention to my food and drink and got adequate sleep and rest.”

“The ride was excellent. We rode in a group with ample rest, food and drink and completed the 600kms in 37 hours,” remarked Pramod Divgi from Porvorim. He achieved his first SR title this year.

Super Randonneurs are cyclists who successfully complete a set of 200kms, 300kms, 400kms and 600kms cycle rides in one calendar year. The SR is a lifelong title recognised globally with the finishers receiving a medal and being accredited by Audax Club of Paris in France the international governing body for randonneuring.
